A group of former Call of Duty developers have banded together to form a new studio based in Los Angeles.

The newly opened Reload Studios was co-founded by James Chung and Taehoon Oh, with the latter previously working at Infinity Ward as a lead artist. The pair has gathered a team of 12 people, with the possibility of more hires in the near future.

Also on the team is: Peter Blumel, formerly key producer at Infinity Ward where he helped created the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series; Hougant Chen, who has worked on Call of Duty: Ghosts and Modern Warfare 3, as well as Homefront; and Nik Ranieri, a Disney animator who worked on many major Disney films starting with The Little Mermaid, plus some of the animation on Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Reload Studios is already at work on a first-person shooter for consoles and mobiles, as well as virtual reality platforms. It hopes to release this title in 2015.

"When I first saw what the latest round of VR devices could do, I realised these were not just peripherals but brand new platforms that could transform the way we experience, interact with and create media," said co-founder Chung.

"It was the perfect time to follow my passion and bring together the most talented people I know under one roof to form a development culture that promotes creativity and collaboration."
