Blast CEO to discuss budget gaming at May’s Northern Exposure in York.Value gaming is to be one of the hot topics and next month’s Northern Exposure 07 games conference in York, with Blast CEO Sean Brennan to discuss the growing importance of budget gaming to the industry.
"Blast know the type of games that younger kids want to play,” Brennan stated. “They don't want long, laborious, difficult games that they will never finish. They don't need cool special effects and production values. What they want is games that are accessible and have a graduated difficulty level but don't necessarily have any new game-play mechanics.
"The global installed base for the PS2 has reached 100 million. PS2 gamers will get younger as machines are passed down to younger siblings and new machines are sold primarily to the younger end of the market.”
"Developers are missing out on this opportunity because it's human nature to want to develop on the best technology. However, with budgets of $15 to $20m for a single product, publishers are increasingly relying on internal studios or bigger, primarily US-based developers to trust with these high-risk projects.”
Other speakers at the event include Eidos’ Lou Fawcett, Eutechnyx’s Darren Jobling and Revolution Software’s Charles Cecil.
Northern Exposure 07 will take place at the York Racecourse on May 10th. For more details click here.
