Former Channel 4 business director Rod Henwood to lead push onto new platforms
Social game developer BinWeevils has hired Rod Henwood as its new CEO.
Henwood, who had already been at the company since 2009 as a board director, replaces Richard Watney at the firm’s helm.
Watney will continue be involved with the business in some form, despite taking on “a range of other entrepreneurial interests”.
Henwood has previously worked as CEO at Harry Potter firm Pottermore and as new business director at Channel 4, where he helped launched the company’s 4 On Demand service.
At BinWeevils, Henwood will be responsible for leading the company’s push onto new platforms.
“I am delighted to be taking on the role of CEO at such an exciting time in BinWeevils development and to have the opportunity to build on Richard Watney’s achievements,” said Henwood.
“Online social worlds represent a safe and stimulating way to introduce kids to digital gameplay, within a moderated environment. We aim to build on our success to date by extending our service onto tablets and smartphones, as well as into International markets.”
BinWeevils co-founder Amelia Johnson added: “Having worked with Rod since his initial investment in the BinWeevils, I look forward to working with him in his new role as CEO, where I am sure he will lead the company to the next level. The board of BinWeevils owes a significant debt of gratitude to Richard Watney who has built the company into a fast growing and profitable business over the last three years.”
BinWeevils is a 3D online virtual world for children developed by the UK studio of the same name, and currently has more than two million monthly active users.
