Publisher lining up beta for long-awaited shooter after New Order release

Bethesda confirms Doom 4 existence in Wolfenstein trailer

Bethesda has confirmed that Doom 4 is still in development during the trailer for upcoming next-gen title Wolfenstein.

At the end of the trailer, viewers are invited to join the beta for a new Doom title if they pre-order Wolfenstein.

The New Order, which is being developed by MachineGames, is currently set to be released on May 23rd in Europe. No date has yet been set for the start of the Doom beta.

"An insert will be included inside your boxed copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order," read a statement on the Wolfenstein website.

"This insert will include a key code along with code redemption instructions. Once the key code is redeemed, you’ll be registered to participate in the DOOM beta once it begins. Check back at wolfenstein.com/doom for updated information."

The last full Doom game, Doom 3, was released in 2004, and developer id Software’s last new game Rage was released in 2011.

There has been much speculation on the long development period of Doom 4, with speculation in 2011 claiming the title had been "indefinitely postponed". Bethesda’s Peter Hines said at the time that rumours of its postponement however were "complete bollocks".

In April last year, Hines said the game would be getting a next-gen reboot after an earlier version of Doom 4 "did not exhibit the quality and excitement that id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect".
