University of Bedfordshire says course can set students up for games industry work

Beds Uni launches computer animation course

Starting this September, Bedfordshire University is offering a BSc in Computer Animation – and the college says the course is ideal for those artists hoping to work in games.

Areas of study on the course include computer graphics, cell animation, 3D modelling and set construction, interactive animation and digital video elements. The course boasts access to £50,000 worth of mocap suits and other hi-tech equipments plus a graphics lab worth £60,000.

Head of computing and information systems, Professor Carsten Maple said: “Computer animation is a rapidly changing field in which technologies and hardware evolve at an increasing rate, but with a consistent need for employees with core creative and technical skills and the ability to adapt.

“This course is designed to prepare students for professional employment or further academic development in the constantly-expanding areas of computer animation. It gives students a unique opportunity to benefit from the expertise of staff across key disciplines, and meets the requirements from industry for computer animators for film production and games development. As well as developing key skills in demanding areas of computer animation, students will have access to high quality animation production facilities.”
