In a panel session titled ‘Broadcasting their Intentions – TV tunes into Games’ at the Develop Conference today, BBC Worldwide’s head of multimedia development Dave Anderson suggested the Beeb will be looking at projects like Doctor Who: The Adventure Games to expand their IP in the future.
“I believe the Doctor Who adventure games represent the future of what BBC Vision will be focussing on,” he said.
“We can now take our IP and focus it in very specific place, scaling it accordingly.”
Sitting next to Alice Taylor, commissioning editor for Channel 4 Education, Anderson seemed keen to impress the BBC’s intentions to start working in areas similar to those Channel 4 have already broken ground in.
“We’re really looking to move away from the PC publishing and to work with something across platforms,” he added.
“But we can’t do that on our own so we are hoping to meet with lots of developers and publishers to talk about it. Games and TV are becoming fused together.”
Finally, Anderson cited the recent BBC deal with Polyphony Digital licencing Top Gear content for Gran Turismo 5 as an example of the multimedia work the broadcaster is hoping to move into.
