CEO Christofer Sundberg confirms dedicated online studio
Avalanche has revealed more details concerning its new online studio.
The firm’s CEO Christofer Sundberg told Develop in February that it will establish a new online studio “that will be able to focus 100 per cent” on the studio’s MMO The Hunter.
As Sundberg explained, the separate Avalanche studio – called Expansive Worlds - will have its own management that can fix their efforts on the once-popular hunting game MMO.
Today the group revealed Expansive Worlds’ new managing director, Stefan Pettersson, who was previously a senior consultant at Netlight Consulting.
Sundberg admitted in an interview that the number of active users on The Hunter has “fallen drastically” since last year, but the group is readying several big moves to breathe new life into the free-to-play title.
A new dedicated studio is the company’s first step in these plans, but Develop has been told that significant levels of free content will be added to the game to lure players back to the MMO.
Sundberg also implied that the Hunter studio will be used to concept new game ideas.
“Expansive Worlds plays a very important part in our long-term strategy in creating and owning innovative intellectual properties,” he said.
”The games industry is still in a state of confusion and uncertainty at the moment and we are very proud being able to show a clear path to move the Avalanche Studios group successfully into the future and beyond.”
