Autodesk used in race to build Assassinâ??s Creed

Ubisoft reveals license deal with 3ds Max, Motion Builder and Human IK

Ubisoft turned to a range of Autodesk tools to develop its latest Assassin’s Creed title under unique time constraints.

The publisher had five studios collaborate for the latest title – released less than twelve months after its predecessor.

Autodesk licensed out its 3ds Max and Motion Builder software for Ubisoft-hired artists to build the game’s environments in record time.

Its Human IK middleware was also integrated into Ubisoft’s Anvil engine for various animation enhancements.

Danny Oros, technical art director for the project, said the tools “helped us create a huge amount of great content in a short amount of time”.

He added: “We knew that with Human IK we could address our inverse kinematics challenges quickly without sacrificing results or performance”.
