Autodesk has announced two new plugins for its user interface development tool Scaleform that allow the middleware to be used with the Unity game engine and for mobile games.
Scaleform has been used to create the UI for many AAA titles including Crysis 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Gears of War.
Now the tool will be available to iOS, Android, and smaller budget teams using the Unity engine seeking to improve their user interface.
“These new versions of Scaleform were released to address growing interest from outside of the triple-A games market," said Marc Petit, Autodesk senior vice president for media and entertainment.
"Inspired by innovative use cases of the technology, we first expanded the middleware’s mobile game toolsets and tutorials, and are now making Scaleform accessible to more developers.”
Scaleform uses Adobe Flash and focuses on an artist-driven workflow.
The new Unity plugin requires no knowledge of C++, and features "out of the box integration."
The middleware can also be integrated into a variety of third-party and proprietary mobile engines.
Scaleform also functions as a standalone game development platform for iOS and Android.
Both plugins are currently priced at $295 per seat, but the cost may vary by region.
