Milestone surpassed in just three and a half years

App Store hits 25bn downloads ahead of iPad 3 reveal

The App Store has hit 25 billion downloads, the tech giant has revealed.

It has taken Apple just three and a half years since the store’s inception to reach the impressive landmark.

The company announced the countdown on February 17th when the number of sales had hit 24.3 million.

This means that in just over two weeks, more than 660million apps had been downloaded.

The tech giant said that it would reward the customer who bought the 25 billionth app $10,000 in iTunes vouchers.

In a big week for Apple, the company also reached a valuation of half a trillion dollars, making it the highest valued business in the world.

The company is also set to reveal the iPad 3 on March 7th, after announcing a conference for the date and teasing "we have something you really have to see. And touch".
