Number of downloads doubles in just 14 months

App Store amasses 50 billion downloads

More than 50 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store.

The feat comes over a year after Apple hit 25 billion downloads in March last year, meaning the number of downloads has doubled in just 14 months.

To celebrate the occasion, Apple has awarded App Store user Brandon Ashmore with a $10,000 App Store Gift Card for downloading the 50 billionth app, which was free-to-play word game Say the Same Thing by SpaceInch.

During its countdown to the milestone, Apple also revealed the top all-time free and paid apps for iPhone and iPad in the UK.

Games dominated the iPhone paid list, with seven titles featuring in the top ten all time paid for apps. In the top free iPhone apps of all time however, only two titles, Temple Run and Draw Something, were featured.
