More than one thousand customers vent frustration at unplayable fake game approved by Apple

Another Pokemon scam ascends App Store

Another Pokemon app scam has hit the Apple store after an unofficial game based on the franchise that doesn’t play any content was approved for sale.

Charging 69p, a fake version of Pokemon Yellow was uploaded to the marketplace, claiming to be the real thing. It is currently 4th in the UK top paid apps chart, whilst it is rated 2nd in the US.

Developed by Daniel Burford, without permission from Nintendo or the Pokemon company, the description details fabricated press reviews rating the game at five stars.

Reviews of the title reveal that the app is indeed a scam, with more than one thousand US customers claiming that the game crashes immediately after it is opened.

“This app doesn’t work at all, it’s a complete waste of time,” reads one review.

“The app opens, shows a screen, then immediately closes.”

Another read: “I want a refund or Apple will continuously receive complaints until something is done.”

The latest approved scam app comes after Develop reported earlier today that another Pokemon game, entitled Pokemon Pocket Edition, was also a fake and provided no content.

Both apps are further examples of numerous game clones that have struck the App Store, taking revenue away from legitimate companies and customers.
