Court documents claim Android brought less than $550m for Google since 2008

Android profits at $550m

Google has produced court documents that claim Android has made less than $550 million for the company since 2008.

According to Venture Beat, Apple devices have brought four times that amount into Google’s coffers during the same period.

The documents were provided during legal talks with Oracle, which is currently involved in a copyright lawsuit with Google, which it accuses of infringing on the Java IP it aquired in 2010.

Google may be willing to settle out of court, but the new figures suggest a settlement would cut deep into the thin margins the company takes from Android devices.

But, "consumers should not be concerned about losing their Android phone,” said a Google spokesperson.

"“There’s no indication that Android is under threat… We’re actively pushing back on Oracle to preserve choice in the marketplace in the long term.”
