First 500 pre-orders to receive a free Google Nexus One phone

Android bundle bonus for Unity pre-orders

Unity Technologies has opened pre-orders for the Android version of its popular eponymous games engine – and there’s an incentive for pre-orderers.

The first 500 customers who pre-order the software will receive a free Google Nexus One phone to test their creations on.

Unity Pro for Android was revealed last month at Google’s I/O developer event. It features all the same features as its iPhone, iPad, PC, Mac, Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts.

“We firmly believe that the future of games lies in the web and mobile markets, and bringing Unity to Android gives our users easy access to a new and rapidly growing audience,” said Nicholas Francis, CCO of Unity Technologies.

"We’re completely stoked that we managed to team up with Google so we can get a bunch of phones included with 500 pre-orders. We don’t know exactly what people will create – only that with the skills of our users, it’s gonna rock.”

Unity Pro for Android features include an integrated editor, the ability to use your phone as an input device to test your game directly within the authoring tool, one-click deployment, and a highly optimised graphics pipeline for OpenGL ES 2.0.

Unity Pro for Android is an add-on license to Unity’s existing Unity Pro, and is priced at at $1500 for existing Unity Pro customers and $2700 for new customers. A non-Pro version, Unity for Android, will be priced at $400 and available at a later date.
