GDC 09: Ambient experience tech to be installed at Pittsburg college's Entertainment Technology Center

amBX partners with Carnegie Mellon University

amBX has used GDC 09 to announce a partnership with Pittsburg’s Carnegie Mellon University that will see the institution’s Entertainment Technology Center fitted with ‘ambient experience technology’.

The new deal means amBx will incorporate its hardware into the university’s ‘Starship Bridge’ system, offering creative and interactive control of the surround lighting fixtures based at the ETC.

“amBX and the ETC share a common vision for the development of immersive experiences for entertainment and gaming applications using lighting and ambient scene control,” commented Jo Cooke at amBX.

“This opportunity places state-of-the-art amBX technology in the hands of entertainment creators of the future and redefines the way entertainment is experienced. We’re really pleased to be able to work with such a prominent institution as ETC to develop the capabilities and application of amBX technology.”

The ETC facility features over 20 RGB LED fixtures which are controlled via DMX. Students will now be able to use amBX to generate automated lighting effects for the content they produce, and create custom game and simulation activities using the recently released amBX developer kit.
