Multiplayer backend service Amazon GameLift has expanded to cover the world’s biggest games markets, and introduced support for autoscaling.
Already available in Northern Virginia and Oregon, GameLift now supports session-based multiplayer game servers in North America, Europe and Asia.
Autoscaling allows developers to dynamically manage their sever fleet capacity, meaning that the number of players reflects the numbers of servers used.
Increments are determined by the developer, rather than Amazon, and are based on metrics such as game session and player counts, instances and server utilisation.
Session protection is implemented to make sure that sessions are not terminated until all players have left.
