Allegorithmic releases free tools for Substance Designer

Allegorithmic has annouced a free update for Substance Designer. Update 5.6 will enable users to "blend scanned materials" with the software and is the first of other promised editions that will help scan-based material authoring.

As part of the free update there are a lot of improvements and implementations of realistic weather effects including options with water to adjust the fogginess and freezing effects, and the covering of snow and how it piles on objects in variying conditions. This is in addition to the height mapping of objects and the weather effects responding to the artists requirements.

More options are now available to to help artists create a more realistic image including blending materials, further improvements to non-uniform histogram scans and ambient occulious with "real-world scale and depth of surface".

The Substance software from Allegorithmic is designed specifically for photogrammetric workflows and is use in VFX and game studios globally.

Dr. Sébastien Deguy, Founder and CEO of Allegorithmic, said: “The goal of the Substance toolset has always been to provide the best tools for digital material authoring. Now the enthusiasm we are seeing for scan-based content and photogrammetry has a dedicated outlet in Substance Designer.”
