Allegorithmic has launched Substance Source, a library of downloadable materials for 3D artists that have been designed with physically based materials in mind. Substance Source claims to offer a massive amount of high-quality physically based materials.
This is different to Allegorithmic’s Substance Share site, as all of these materials have been created by Allegorithmic or a selected partner and are not just uploads from the wider Substance community.
Right now there are around 600 different materials in the library and all are provided, as you would imagine, as Substance .sbsar files so that they can be loaded with the Substance toolkit or in any third party applications that support the format, including Unity, Unreal Engine and Maya. The materials are all capable of exporting texture maps at up to 4K resolution.
“Beyond having the best tools, artists also need inspiration, whether this consists of samples, references, or elements that can be customized and remixed,” said Dr. Sébastien Deguy, founder and CEO of Allegorithmic, in a “Substance Source is a new but fundamental component in the Substance ecosystem, which means that artists have everything they need in one place and are freer to concentrate on what truly matters.”
Substance Source is available now to Substance Live users at no extra charge. If you don’t have Substance Live, you can see pricing details for Indie, Pro and Studio tiers on the company’s website.
