Cloud gaming has arrived on Windows 8 with the launch of Agawi’s GameZen app.
Since Windows 8 operates on a single core, developers who release titles on GameZen can reach an audience of users on PCs, tablets, and smartphones.
Agawi claims its app is launching with over 1,000 games ready to play, with a focus on mid-core titles.
“GameZen is a huge opportunity for both developers and gamers,” said Agawi executive chairman Peter Relan.
“We’re focusing on connecting Windows 8 users with their favorite games and helping them find new games they love, for a fun and accessible gaming experience. Developers also benefit from a huge new audience available to them and the Windows 8 devices that are extremely well-suited to gaming, like the Surface tablet.”
Windows 8 has overhauled the traditional desktop, allowing users to use the same tiled "metro" layout seen on Windows phones, and incorporating a built in store.
Games are already a big part of the Windows 8 ecosystem, accounting for nearly 20 percent of all apps on the Windows Store.
