Business realignment results in cuts to publishing office
Activision has confirmed that 30 full-time positions have been cut from its Minneapolis office.
The Minnesota office was mostly responsible for licensed titles such as the Cabela hunting games.
While Activision's 2012 calendar was full of licensed games, the company has elected to back off that strategy for 2013.
Many companies have been scrambling to change business models to suit new trends like digital distribution and mobile gaming, and the world's largest publisher is no exception.
Unfortunately, it seems that such changes always come with layoffs.
"Like any successful business, Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues – this is an ongoing process," an Activision spokesperson told Joystiq.
"In 2013, we expect that our Minneapolis division will release fewer games based on third-party licenses than we released during 2012."
"As a result, we are realigning the structure of our Activision Minneapolis division to better reflect our slate and the market opportunities. We are working to redirect those employees that are impacted to other parts of the company where possible, as well as offering them outplacement counseling services."
