Canadian studio will make 100 staff redundant as part of publishing merger

Activision-Blizzard shakedown continues: half of Radical to go

Activision-Blizzard-owned Radical, formerly a Vivendi Games studio, is to lose half of its staff.

The move comes as new owner Activision Blizzard looks to halve the number of staff and projects at the studio, which is currently working on Prototype – one of the few products the firm keps after merging with Vivendi.

Two weeks ago, the company named Radical as one of the studios which would be ‘realigned’ as part of the corporate pairing.

"Activision Blizzard is committed to making the best games possible and has elected at this time to reduce the number of titles that Radical is developing from four games to two," Leah Rubin, Radical’s vice-president of human resources, said in an email reprinted by the Vancouver Sun.

"Therefore, we will be proportionately reducing the size of our studio."

100 staff from the 200-strong studio will now be made redundant – although Rubin told the Vancouver Sun that the studio would help them find other jobs amongst the many other studios based in the Canadian city.
