Record number of studios apply for Nordic Game Program grants.

The first round of applications for Nordic Game's 2007 grant fund for games developers has seen almost 50 studios make bids for the DKK5m (€670,000) fund, with the total amount applied for is DKK23m. 47 different applications were received from 38 different Nordic companies.

"The number of applicants comes as no real surprise to me," said Erik Robertson, Director of the Nordic Game Program.

"Plenty of applications were received last year too. On the other hand it is pleasing to note that the vast majority now seem to come from companies devoted solely to electronic games, companies that are already established or are in the process of getting there. This is clearly an industry making rapid progress."

The fund will be allocated in two rounds of DKK2.5m each and applications are to be evaluated by a group of experts, with the first recipients to be introduced to the Nordic Game 2007 conference in Malmö, May 15th to 16th. The deadline for the second round of the grant is scheduled for 15 October.
