No download or installation required for web-based tech

Cloud-based HTML5 dev platform PlayCanvas enters open beta

Cloud-based HTML5 game development platform PlayCanvas has entered open beta.

The end-to-end development and publishing tool is designed for the creation and release of 3D HTML5 games.

The platform is based on cloud technology that allows real-time collaboration through which users can create their titles together and then share them. No download or installation is required.

PlayCanvas was formed in 2011 by Activision’s former European technical director and Renderware product manager Will Eastcott and PlayStation Home founding member Dave Evans.

Last week the tech firm took part in Techstars’ first European accelerator programme, through which the company hopes to attract funding for the project.

“PlayCanvas is the world’s first cloud-hosted game development platform,” said PlayCanvas founder Will Eastcott.

“Developers finally have the ability to collaborate in real-time, access their projects from any device and join an online network of like-minded developers. After honing the platform during our lengthy closed beta, we’re thrilled to open the doors to PlayCanvas and let everyone discover a better way to make games.”
