Sony may be working on new speech recognition technology for its hardware, according to a job listing.
A job listing for a ‘speech recognition engineering intern’ suggests Sony’s PS4 could get voice commands.
Unearthed by Kotaku, the ad for a speech recognition engineering intern on Linkedin lists tasks including "speech noise reduction, speech detection, recognition, noisy rejection, and grammar processing under various environments".
Though the job description doesn’t mention the PS4 specifically, this appears similar to the voice technology used by Microsoft’s Kinect for voice commands.
The news that the overhauled PlayStation Eye camera will be have a four channel microphone array, combined with the job listing, could mean that Sony is moving to give the PS4 the same speech recognition capabilities as the Xbox.
