More than a quarter of a billion people playing games on social network every month

GDC 13: Facebook paid out $2bn to devs in 2012

An astonishing $2 billion was paid out by Facebook to game developers on the site during 2012, the social networking giant has revealed.

More than 100 developers are said to have generated more than $1 million through the site.

The company claimed that most of its top developers had generated record revenues through the social network last year.

Facebook has also reported than more than a quarter of a billion people were playing games on the site each month.

As gaming on Facebook picks up steam, the company said that around 200 titles on the site currently had more than one million active users each, with the number of game installs across the social network up 75 per cent compared to March 2012.

As well as some impressive stats for Facebook gaming, the firm said that as of February this year, 55 per cent of the top 400 iOS apps were integrated with Facebook as the site looks to become a central hub for games on multiple platforms.

Last month, the site also drove 263 million clicks to the Apple App Store and Google Play through its mobile news feed.

To help further drive growth in its gaming ecosystem, Facebook revealed it would be launching a new games section of the timeline this week to offer users a way to highlight their favourite games, which it hopes will also help improve discoverability on the site.
