Zynga Japan closes doors

Support to continue on card battle game Ayakashi but three other titles dropped

Zynga has closed its Japan studio as part of wide-ranging cost cutting measures at the social gaming outfit.

A notice of dissolution on the developer’s website states that the office will officially shut down on January 31st.

Despite the studio’s closure, its games such as iOS and Android card battle title "Yin Ayakashi record" will continue to be supported.

Zynga Japan was initially formed in Tokyo in June 2010 when the social gaming company teamed up with web giant SoftBank for a joint venture and bought a developer named Unoh, renaming it Zynga Japan.

Although originally localising Zynga titles for the region, the studio later developed its own titles such as monster battle RPG Montopia.

Support however for titles such as Montopia, Mojitomo and Machitsuku was terminated as of December 21st.

“Thank you for patronizing always Zynga Japan,” read a statement on company’s website, as roughly translated by Google.

“That we will continue to work but I get the kindness of everybody over two and a half years since its establishment as the Japanese subsidiary of US company Zynga, to dissolve the corporation Womochimashite Japan January 31, 2013 due to various reasons became.

“I would like to thank deeply from my heart to everyone, including the customer who enjoys the title of our past, we received your support.

“Because we will continue to service beyond January 31, 2013 "Yin Ayakashi record" has gotten (and Android version of iOS) well received, thank you for your continued patronage and support.”
