Veteran developer 'gestating slowly' on new IP codenamed Bluestreak

Bleszinski considers launching own studio

Gears of War and Jazz Jackrabbit creator Cliff Bleszinski has said he would consider starting his own studio in future.

Speaking to G4TV, the industry luminary said that it was not a matter of if, but when he would form his own company.

Bleszinski recently left Epic Games after almost 20 years at the studio, where he worked on a number of titles including Gears of war, Unreal Tournament and Jazz Jackrabbit.

"I’d been working with them since I was 17 years old. It’s time for a fresh start,” said Bleszinski.

“I’ll start a new studio maybe at some point. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when and with who.”

The development veteran also teased that he was currently “gestating slowly” on a brand new IP, currently codenamed ‘Bluestreak’ after the transformer of the same name. He did not reveal any further information however.

When asked how he might set up a potential new studio, Bleszinski said he would ideally let developers handle a lot of responsibility to do what they wanted, with it important for a leader to have faith in the people involved with the development process.

“When you start a studio you want to have a philosophy for the overall studio as far as what the pillars of the studio is founded on, and then you also have good game design philosophy,” he said.

“Honestly I just want to create an environment where people can pan for gold because you don’t always have the best idea first, you kind of have to trust the process and the people in that process. And don’t self doubt. Games developers and game designers are so good at second-guessing and questioning each other. I just want to pan for gold whilst also having faith in the process.”
