Reggie Fils-Aime claims new console is more graphic intensive than other systems
Opinion remains divided on whether Wii U is able to match the visuals of the Xbox 360 and PS3 – unless you’re Reggie Fils-Aime, of course.
The outspoken boss of Nintendo America told CNN in a video transcribed by VG247 that he reckons the new machine has the beating of its current-gen rivals.
“The specs are quite different than the competitive systems, much more graphically intensive,” he stated. “If you do a side-by-side comparison you would see that third-party games like Call of Duty look dramatically better on our system.”
He also spoke positively of the console’s early sales performance in the US, although we’re yet to hear any official numbers.
“It’s selling extremely well here in the Americas. Already stocks are quite low in the marketplace; we’re rapidly replenishing. So for us, certainly the consumer’s deciding that the innovation is well worth their investment.”

"The Wii U version matches the look of the Xbox 360 game and thus gives it an edge visually over the PlayStation 3 release, but unfortunately it comes up well short in terms of performance - an aspect that is all-important to the playability of a COD title. The frame-rate variance is such that the PS3 game feels generally smoother, while the 360 release feels like an entirely different game in the more demanding levels. Bearing in mind the commonalities in hardware design between Wii U and Xbox 360, we can't help but feel somewhat disappointed that Black Ops 2 under-performs so noticeably."
frame drops on a new console with a freshly adapted engine is one thing, much better visuals is another. based on other reports it seems that so far (as expected) studios have not fully optimized their technology for wiiU. yet it already looks better and plays as well for the most part. not bad at all i'd say!
Reggie seems to be fighting his corner for all its worth - like a cok'ed up Boris Johnson - he will wail at any criticism, and deny any failing till the Japanese cut him loose around the time of the Wii-U+ is launched in 2014.
The Wii U has hardware that surpasses the Xbox and PS3, it was to be expected.
The Wii U can read discs at a 22MB/s compared to the 360′s 15.85 MB/s (DVD) and the PS3′s 9MB/s (Blu-ray) speeds.
the Wii U boasts 1GB of RAM for game access and 1GB of RAM for the console’s operating system for a total of 2GB. Again, the Wii U’s 1GB of accessible game RAM is almost double that of the 360 and Ps3, which both include 512MB of RAM.
It also includes an AMD Radeon HD 6770 GPU, which will display games fast and at a high framerate. The included GPU meets the optimal requirements for most new DX11 based PC games.
I think the Wii U is going to be a huge success, and will endure it's entire planned lifespan.
