Wii U 'more open and indie friendly' than Wii

Broke Rules' Martin Pichlmair discusses how Nintendo has learnt its lessons from the current generation

Wii/Wii U indie developer Broken Rules has expressed its approval of the openness of Nintendo’s new hardware compared to its predecessor.

Speaking with Official Nintendo Magazine, Broken Rules’ Martin Pichlmair revealed his feelings on the growth between the two devices in regards to openness and accessibility toward indies.

"I cannot talk about the new eShop in detail. What I do know is that Nintendo is doing everything to make this console much more open, social and indie-friendly than the Wii ever was," Pichlmair said.

"There are people at Nintendo who know where innovative games come from. And if you look at the launch lineup you can clearly see that those people have had a say in it.

"At the same time, the Wii U with its various controller configurations calls for experimental games of all kinds and Nintendo is always eager to have games make good use of its console's innovations.”

Broken Rules is currently readying its multiplayer-focused aerial action title Chasing Aurora for release on Wii U’s eShop later this year.

in words they were to do the same with both wii, ds, and 3ds. open it up to developers etc. etc. in reality it is not so.

an indie studio, the kind of studio that starts to make games and created value/volume for iOS and Android is not able to join. Such a studio, will fail most checks nintendo has in place. financial, creative background etc. not to mention the devkit costs!

nintendo has not announced any plans to rectify or at least adress these issues.
