Gearbox head Randy Pitchford makes amends for plagiarism with job offer

What could have been another chapter in the ongoing controversy over copyright infringement in the games industry ended in a job offer.

In a rare display of openness and cooperation, Gearbox has reached out to British artist Olly Moss to apologise for the theft of his work by a Borderlands 2 illustrator.

Moss, best known for creating the posters for blockbuster films The Dark Knight Rises, The Moon, and the box art for Resistance 3, has accepted the apology and seems eager to work with the Texas studio.

News of the theft broke on Friday when Moss tweeted his disappointment to fans.

"I'm a huge Gearbox fan so I was really disappointed to see this image inside the Borderlands 2 box," said Moss.

"Not angry, just disappointed," he clarified. "One of my favourite developers. Would have jumped at the opportunity to work with them. Oh well."

It seems that Gearbox head Randy Pitchford took this as an invitation, and soon sent his apologies.

"You're amazing. Inspiration is part of art and you've inspired us. But the bit that was lifted is uncool, so... consequences," said Pitchford.

"Check your e-mail. We should be working together to do it right and legit."

But Moss is apparently very forgiving, and seems excited that the unfortunate circumstances have given him a chance to work with Gearbox.

"Haha! This whole thing is so far from a big deal," replied Moss. "I wish I'd never even said anything."

Surely game devs should sack artists that copy from other artists? If a composer stole music or a programmer stole code from another game to use on their own they would get the same treatment.

sourcing art style and even creating composite art is rampant. ask a game artist for something and s/he will surely start with a google image search. this one was just a bit too blatant.

btw your captcha might as well be throwing up kanji
