Developer wanted more than a ‘traditional publisher’ for its 2013 projects
Starbreeze is partnering with 505 Games to release two of its upcoming titles, including Payday 2.
505 Games will publish the previously announced titles Payday 2 and P13 (working title) worldwide in 2013.
“When we started to plan the next steps for Starbreeze we wanted to find a partner, not just a traditional publisher, and 505 Games fit that criteria,” said Mikael Nermark, CEO and president of Starbreeze.
“We feel that this collaboration can grow into a long-term partnership.”
Ian Howe, president of 505 Games North America, added: “Our partnership with Starbreeze Studios is a testament to 505 Games’ commitment to working with top development talent. In addition to working with an amazing studio we are also honoured to partner acclaimed Swedish film director Josef Fares whose creative genius is bringing P13 to life.”
P13 is being developed by Starbreeze in conjunction with Fares whose talents are guiding the storyline, look and feel of the upcoming action adventure game.
Payday 2, in development at Starbreeze’s Overkill Studios, is the sequel to the Payday: The Heist.
Both titles will be available via download.

Right... is that why it took Starbreeze about 2+ years to try and convince all types of publishers to hire them? You were practically begging the bigger publishers to give you a deal that would follow the destined-to-be-a-flop Syndicate. As I see it, you guys lucked out with 505. Let's hope Starbreeze doesn't waste this opportunity like it did with EA.
By the way, can we SEE some game footage already? Why all the secrecy? I doubt you're making anything next-gen or groundbreaking, so why not start trying to generate a little interest, no? This is starting to reek of Syndicate all over again: a project kept top secret for 4 years and then surprise! Is THIS what we've been speculating over? It wasn't worth the wait. FLOP!!
Starbreeze could learn a thing or two from real studios that display a better business sense. Even games scheduled for next year like The Last Of Us and Watch Dogs have shown teaser footage.
Hi Ryan!
You seem to forget that EA is also responsible for the Syndicate flop!
Starbreeze currently has very much in secrecy. But in a world where it exists things such as game dev. teams who mainly focus on copying other developers gameidéas that seems wise?
