Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion release prompts UK studio to go legal
Sniper Elite studio Rebellion has filed a lawsuit against two developers involved in an expansion to sci-fi RTS Sins of a Solar Empire.
The UK outfit making the legal action believes that Stardock Entertainment and Ironclad Games' Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion violates trademarks and may confuse consumers and the press, reports Gamasutra.
Filed in June, the claim highlights promotional materials that refer to Sins of a Solar Empire purely as Rebellion, and reportedly highlight 'unfair competition' as a reason for legal action.
Studio Rebellion also reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to Ironclad back in April this year, which failed to encourage a change of game name.
With no comment yet available from either company, the case continues.
What a stupid reason to sue someone... No one's going to confuse the name of a game and the name of a studio... not very common for a studio to name their game after themselves, especially long after they've formed!
