Top games industry figures Ian Livingstone, Peter Molyneux and Mark Healey have praised Brunel University’s game courses.
Together with this approval, the university’s games design faculty announced that 65 per cent of its students have successfully found work in the games industry after graduating.
“All the games design degree courses on offer at Brunel try to balance the theoretical and the practical. So we strike a great balance for our students,” said Professor Tanya Krzywinska, convenor of Brunel’s MA Digital Games Theory and Design courses.
“We also have been successful in recruiting a broad range of well-known guest lecturers from the industry, who are able to give our students some real world insights.
“Our ultimate aim is to equip our students with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to find work within the games industry. These latest figures confirm we are definitely on the right track.”
Peter Molyneux, Ian Livingstone and Mark Healey have all guest lectured at the university.
Molyneux, founder of 22Cans, added: “I have been a guest lecturer at Brunel University several times and have never failed to be impressed by the enthusiasm, potential and talent of students on the games theory and design degree courses. It is the kind of course I wish had been available when I was a student.”
Livingstone, life president of Eidos and co-author of the Next Gen report on skills, said: “The specialist design courses at Brunel are forward-thinking, serving to make students industry-ready to become the next generation of games creators.”
Brunel University itself has risen greatly in the university rankings compiled by UK national newspapers The Times, The Guardian, The Independent and The Sunday Times.
The Good University Guide, published in The Times, ranks Brunel 17th in the UK, which is a leap of 77 places from last year. The university has also risen 38 places in The Guardian’s University Guide to 44th out of 120 institutions.
Admissions for the 2012-13 academic year are almost filled. There are some places still available for its BA Single Honours Game Design course through UCAS Clearing.
