Mojang expecting to more than double profits from last year, says studio MD Carl Manneh
Mojang’s hugely popular world building title Minecraft is selling more than 17,000 copies a day on Xbox 360.
As reported by it24, Mojang MD Carl Manneh claimed that as a result of steady sales on all platforms, the studio is set to more than double its profits from last year.
In 2011 the developer reported profits of more than £5.6m, with revenues totalling £52m.
Markus Persson's own company Notch Development took £40m of last year's revenues, although it is expected Mojang will recieve a higher percentage this time around after the Minecraft creator stepped away from leading development on the indie hit.
“Since Mojang keeps more of the earnings from the new Minecraft versions, our turnover increases a lot this year,” said Manneh.
“Our profits will more than double. Markus’ company will also make more money, though perhaps not as high a percentage as Mojang.”
Minecraft has already surpassed more than three million downloads on XBLA, meaning it has raised more than $60 million for the Sweden studio on the Xbox 360 alone, with total sales for the game now far surpassing the 10m copies announced in May.
I don't understand, what does he mean Markus' company? Is that not Mojang?
Markus has his own company (Notch Development) that licenses Minecraft to Mojang.
Yes as the comment above mentions, Markus Persson also has his own company called Notch Development. I'll edit the article to make this more clear!
This also makes no sense (and has two "the"s)
"meaning it has raised more than $60 million the the Sweden studio on the Xbox 360 alone"
I think you're failing to take into account the share of the Xbox 360 version's developer. The Xbox 360 version was developed by a Scottish company; it's a port, yes, but it has many UI changes and runs on a completely different engine, hence why it's a fair bit behind the PC version in terms of updates. What's the Scottish developer's share?
