Analyst says Activision forced creation of Pro Controller
Nintendo’s Wii U is a solution in search of a problem, says Michael Pachter.
Speaking at the Develop Conference last week, the Wedbush Securities analyst said Wii U just “isn’t going to work”.
“I don’t get it,” he said. “I think that essentially this is a solution in search of a problem. I mean, somebody had an idea – ‘let's make the controller a tablet’ – and there aren’t many games that are going to take advantage of that.”
The analyst was outspoken about his scepticism of the Wii successor, but also labelled Nintendo’s current console a “gimmick”.
“It worked, they got lucky, [but] I don’t think they're getting lucky with Wii U.
“I don’t think they suck - I just think that they really believe that, ‘If we’re still novel, everything we do will work’. This isn’t going to work.
“Hardcore gamers will buy them; hardcore Nintendo fanboys will buy it. They could put out a piece of cardboard and say that it'll play Mario and they'll buy it.”
In addition to his Wii U doubts, Pachter claims that Activision were responsible for the Wii U Pro Controller, which closely resembles an Xbox 360 controller: “Activision never said anything to me, but I know that [for] big games like Call of Duty they said, ‘No, we're not putting it on there if you don't give us a conventional controller’. So they gave in.”

the Wii,ds, 3ds are gimmicks too but it worked out well for nintendo...
Mind you, x360, Vita, PS3, everything gaming is a gimmick.
If in that article you replace "Wii-U" with "Wii" and "tablet" with "wii-mote" this could very well be the statement that many people gave about Wii.
And oh boy where they wrong!!
I don't know if it will work. But right now I've learned to give Nintendo its due credit.
And that annalist should do too.
