PlayStation outfit stakes a claim to being the choice for 'gamers'
And so it begins. Sony has lashed out at rivals Microsoft and Nintendo for neglecting the core gamer in their respective E3 presentations.
“The reaction to the press conference has been just amazingly positive,” Sony’s head of digital games Jack Buser told VentureBeat. “While some of our competitors, seemingly, are losing the plot, forgetting what built this industry. It was the gamer. And our press conference really drove that home.
“We showed amazing partnerships with our third parties. We showed incredible titles from our first parties. Last of Us, you saw that? Beyond: Two Souls. You see these titles and they represent some of the… I’m biased, but these are the best games I’ve ever seen, and they’re exclusive to our platform.
“These are the types of games that gamers want, and they’re pushing what a console game can be to the next level.”
Seemingly unworried by the criticism aimed at all three platform holders this E3, Buser went on big up his own company’s performance.
“I think we’ve had a fantastic E3,” he added. “I’ve watched all of our competitors very closely. And I think we did a very good job of drawing a solid line in the sand here at E3, and standing up with our back straight as PlayStation and saying ‘We’re for gamers’.
“We are for the gamer first and foremost. Everything we do at PlayStation, we ask ourselves first, ‘What’s right for the gamer?’. Everything we’re doing is for the gamer first and foremost, and I think that… I was proud to be a PlayStation employee at this E3.”

I agree, as both a gamer and graphics programmer.
I played daily on a Playstation about 3 years at uni before buying my first Sony product, and about 5years before buying a Playstation, So them using the term “gamer” rather than Microsoft's “customer” term, just reminded me that using someone's product still makes you part of the club even if you were once the freeloader friend.
Nintendo should have found E3 so easy with new hardware; especially with the promise of Nintendo Ips in HD at last, but they only thought to bring family stuff like Miis that lost their charm back in 2007, or other Ips that have limited benefit from increased visual fidelity.
But the major mistake continued by Nintendo is on the gamepad pro front. They still see their pre-Wii development excellence as an added charged accessory after thought, and this is where Playstation gets the balance right. Move and Sharpshooter can enhance gaming, but the lion's share of games and early adopter gamers still require dualshock 3 homage.
