Diablo 3 'the fastest selling PC game ever'

Diablo 3 'the fastest selling PC game ever'

Around 3.5m copies sold on day one; First week sales projected at 6.3 million units

Long-awaited RPG Diablo 3 is the fastest selling PC game of all time, according to developer Blizzard Entertainment.

The game, which was plagued by launch hiccups and online hacks, sold more than 3.5 million copies in a single day, Blizzard claimed.

The California developer claims that such a sales feat makes it the fastest selling game ever on PC.

An additional 1.2 million customers received Diablo III from signing up to the World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion, taking the launch total to 4.7 million.
By the end of the first week, sales had passed 6.3 million copies, the company added.

The sales have also demonstrated the increasingly diminishing relevance of the retail PC charts. Diablo 3, as a packaged product, entered the UK charts at number two behind Max Payne 3.

"We're definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo III and jump in the moment it went live," said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime.

"We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support."

The extra 0.5 copies sold is in reference to someone who hacked one of the other 3 copies and is still deciding whether to buy it or not. If that person does, the total will go up to 4.

"Was" plagued?!!

I'm not sure if "was" is the right word to use here, but tbh I find the game enjoyable overall. Just don't claim that the problems are over, not even by a long shot.

The auctionhouse still has critical issues with commodity trades, the game keeps going offline and the 3006/3007 errors are still not completely fixed as they said they would.

Furthermore, there's the issue of people getting too quickly through Inferno when Blizzard were boasting about how insanely difficult it was, only to learn that Diablo 3 is a grindfest just like WoW.

Well, I got my own thoughts and I won't be as singleminded as some others, but it's not the AAA game that I'd expect from Blizzard, that's all.

Diablo 3 gets a 9/10 though, for the sheer tone and overall enjoyment.
