Studio prepares for announcement explaining decision to quit funding drive
Los Angeles indie outfit Elastic Games has unexpectedly abandoned its Kickstarter campaign after just five days and having raised more than $25,000.
The crowdfunding initiative commenced on April 18th and sought $325,000 to help fund a first-person shooter title called Police Warfare.
The Kickstarter project’s cancellation has not been explained.
“Thank you so much for the incredible response to the game,” read an update from the studio.
“We're shutting down the kickstarter account but this is by no means the end of Police Warfare. News will be coming.”
The studio, which is staffed by former developers of games such as Gears Of War, Crysis and Grand Theft Auto 4, may have been offered a VC or publishing deal for the title, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
Develop has contacted Elastic Games for comment.
Unacceptable. These jerks abused kickstarted to get a VC funding, they can kiss my a**.
It cannot be abuse since they do not get a penny of the funds raised so far. I think their decision would be based far more on security. If they had a Kickstarter project, then it is not 100% guaranteed to raise the funds warranted by the end of it. That is an insecure place for anyone, even given recent successes.
If someone has offered them the full amount, or more, straight off the bat, then I cannot blame them for wanting to take it. I just hope they do not let such a deal get in the way of their creative vision.
