Tech giants to meet in magistrates in attempt to resolve patent dispute

Apple and Samsung to enter settlement talks

Apple and Samsung CEOs Tim Cook and Choi Gee-Sung have agreed to attempt a settlement over an on-going patent lawsuit between the companies.

As reported by Reuters, Apple, which is suing the mobile tech giant for allegedly copying the design of the iPhone and iPad for its Galaxy range of devices, will now look to settle the dispute before trial.

The companies were refereed to a San Francisco-based magistrate Judge on Tuesday by US District Judge Lucy Koh to lead the talks.

Apple was previously successful in gaining an injunction against Samsung to ban the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the EU, although this was lifted shortly after for all countries except Germany.

If the talks are unsuccessful, the trial will go ahead in July, in a lawsuit that includes more than 20 cases in ten countries.
