Obsidian to join project if $2.1 million mark is reached

Wasteland 2 Kickstarter passes $2m

InExile’s Wasteland 2 Kickstarter campaign has raised over $2 million dollars, putting it well within striking distance of the $2.1 needed to bring Obsidian studios into the project.

Brian Fargo, founder of Interplay and inExile, announced last week the plan to bring Obsidian on board the follow up to RPG classic Wasteland, which served as the inspiration for Interplay’s Fallout franchise.

Fargo has a good deal of experience working with the developers at Obsidian, and was excited to announce the possibility of having Planescape: Torment mastermind Chris Avellone join the project.

"At this point the focus of this collaboration is getting Chris Avellone on the project," an inExile spokesperson told Develop.

"Secondarily the goal was to evaluate some of Obsidian’s story development and design tools. The full nature of the collaboration is still a little un defined, but as long as Avellone is working with us, we are very happy!"

At time of writing, the campaign has raised $2,021,000.
