'From Ashes' bonus content built alongside main game, but sold separately
Publishing giant Electronic Arts has responded to mounting accusations that its studio BioWare had pre-packaged DLC within Mass Effect 3’s retail discs.
The accusations are unfounded but originate from some customers’ complaints that DLC for Mass Effect 3 was available on the first day of the game’s release – making it certain that the digital content was developed in parallel the main game.
The publisher said its ‘From Ashes’ DLC is bigger than 600 MB, and the content “was completed while the main game was in certification and are not available on the disc”.
In a statement sent to GameInformer, EA said it was necessary to include certain “framework elements and character models” on disc.
Mass Effect 3 sold more than 900,000 copies on its first day of sale, following rave reviews from critics.
I honestly don't see how one could play the game without it. The extra character that joins your squad seems to play a much bigger role than Zaeed or Kasumi could ever take on. I'm not exactly saying that the DLC characters in ME2 weren't fleshed out, it's just that they were DLC. Bioware/EA should have followed suit with how Rocksteady/WB released the Catwoman DLC.
It's situations like these that show there is still a lot to be learned in video game marketing.
Actually its not the same, the zaeed dlc was available with the cerberus network dlc and like the catwoman dlc they were free with every new copy of the game to discourage the purchases of pre-owned copies while in this case, they are selling it separately and are charging one-sixth or one-seventh the price of a brand new ME3 game copy. basically we all just bought ME3 for 45 pounds 99 pences ( instead of 39.99 or 42.99 depending on where you bought yours.)
