Tools to bring extra online functionality such as multiplayer matchmaking and cross-platform gameplay

Vita devs to get GameSpy online services

GameSpy Technology is to bring its API tools to the PS Vita after signing joining with Sony Computer Entertainment’s tools and middleware licence program.

The application programming interface aims to allow developers to bring extra online functionality to their games, such as cross-platform gameplay, data tracking, multiplayer matchmaking and online leaderboards.

The first title to use the online services on Vita will be Mortal Kombat.

“GameSpy Technology is committed to giving game developers the tools they need to bring their games to multiple platforms with providing players with same high quality online experience,” said GameSpy senior director Drew Curby.

“Mortal Kombat Vita is a perfect example of how we can work with a talented developer to bring their game from one platform to the next.”

The tools, which can already be used on PC, PS3, iOS and Android, will be available to Vita developers in April.
