Trade body to explore ways of 'positively' cutting down on rampant illegal file-sharing in response to SOPA
An nation-wide industry debate focusing on online piracy prevention is to be hosted by UK trade organisation UKIE, it has announced.
In response to the controversial SOPA currently going through US Congress, UKIE will be bringing UK industry bods together to explore various ways of cutting down on illegal file-sharing.
“We are very much involved in the debates around Intellectual Property,” said UKIE CEO Jo Twist.
“Our industry has a very close relationship with gamers who drive our industry and we have led the way in supplying compelling content across all formats and constantly reviewing our business models. We are proud to have this relationship and want to preserve and build on the loyalty of all gamers.
“To this end we are announcing that we will host an industry debate to explore ways of positively building on the power of our products and services for game makers and players alike. This will happen in the coming weeks and will extend beyond our membership to all those involved in our innovative industry.”
Many games companies around the world have come out against the Stop Online Piracy Act in recent months, including Nintendo, EA and Sony.

If a debate is really planned then actually arguing whether piracy is all bad is an essential component. Many see the Internet as a new economic model, not a threat; me among them so someone should argue this side. Not to discuss this element would be disingenuous! Look at the SOPA resistance!
