Activision shares drop after Warcraft exodus

Publishing giant posts third-quarter income of $148 million

Activision Blizzard shares have fallen almost seven per cent after an exodus of over one million Warcraft subscribers this year.

The shares closed at $13.02 in New York, which Bloomberg reports is the biggest drop since February 10th.

The number of players on the fantasy MMO fell by 800,000 players in September to 10.3 million overall users.

This figure is down also down from the 12 million subscribers World of Warcraft had shown in October 2010, revealing a continued and dramatic decline.

Despite this, Activision reported a third-quarter net income of $148 million.

The publishing giant released its huge blockbuster Modern Warfare 3 on Tuesday, which has broken the record for the most pre-orders ever, and it expects the game to further increase the company’s revenues.
