Flash player 'missing from PS Vita launch'

Flash player 'missing from PS Vita launch'

But player could be added in future firmware update

PlayStation Vita will not be able to play Flash games through its internet browser, a new report claims.

According to a 1Up profile of the upcoming handheld, Vita's web browser “features support for cookies, JavaScript 1.7, and (part of) the HTML5 standard”.

Flash support is not part of the package, 1Up said, though the publication quoted games magazine Famitsu as claiming “there's a very good chance this will be added in future firmware updates”.

Flash is one of the world’s most popular multimedia platforms and has become central to web browsing and online games.

Android smartphones and tablets utilise the tech, though Apple mobile devices have banned them. Nintendo’s 3DS browser does not support Flash.

This system will be rooted in a matter of days from release, and a proper browser put in the place of whatever crap browser they pre-installed.

Seriously though, are we still trying to determine if flash is a standard? The internet seems to have decided on this a LONG time ago. Get with it, or get left behind. It's pretty obvious that the only reason Sony would omit flash support from their browser is to limit the gaming options that you get without paying them something for it. F em.

Clearly a sans-programmer/developer decision.
