Sony: PS Vita battery won't last beyond 5 hours

Handheld's spec sheet released

The battery life for Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld will play for three to five hours from full capacity, Sony has confirmed.

A full recharge from empty will take approximately three hours.

The device can handle video playback for up to seven hours, while music playback can last around nine hours, the company said.

The detail comes as Sony issues a full and final product spec sheet for the device, the details of which are found below.

Two different versions of PS Vita will be available – one with additional 3G capabilities and another without. Sony is bidding to put connected entertainment at the centre of the device’s offering.

PlayStation Vita will launch across the West next year. The basic model will likely cost £200-250 in the UK, and be charged around £50 more for if 3G-enabled. Sony has not confirmed these prices.

Considering the price that's rather lame.

My 50/50 stance on whether I'd invest or not just reduced to zero.

My PSP3000's battery (including new ones) last about 2 hours when I play FM11. 3-5 hours would be an improvement, for me.

I consider myself a keen gamer, but at that price there is zero chance I will be buying one. Is this really going to generate the sales it needs to succeed?

Well, there's no way i'm buying one of these now. I'll wait for the Vita slim and lite I think.

Oh come on guys. Moaning about the battery life. How many of your gadgets this powerful can live longer than an hour being pounded with constant gaming? Its running quad cpu, quad gpu, wifi/3g, reading from ssd, r/w to ram. The more you put into gadgets the more it's going to demand. I have faith in sony and their batteries. They are good. the downside to the psp2 (i refuse to call it ps vita) is that the battery is not user replaceable. The battery life on this is about right for modern handhelds. My psp 1000 still goes for 2 and a half hours while gaming from a umd. from a memory stick i get an hour longer.
