Online FPS also said to feature PS3 mouse and keyboard options

Valve ‘adding PS Move support to Counter-Strike’

Valve’s first motion control-supported console game may be just a matter of months away from release.

The Washington studio has said will include PlayStation Move with the next instalment of Counter-Strike, according to reports.

Counter-Strike Global Offensive is also designed to unite the PS3, PC and Mac versions of the game through shared online networks, though the process has yet to be finalised.

According to a Kotaku report, the PS3 version of the game will feature both PlayStation Move and keyboard and mouse support.

Valve will also use its network resources to match-make PC, Mac and PS3 customers by their skill, regardless of the device used for playing.

Extended peripheral support for PS3 Counter-Strike is another result of the extraordinary volte-face Valve has performed in the past 24 months.

Upon the release of the system, Valve was one of the most vocal opponents of PS3, particularly due to the additional requirements for multi-threaded coding. But last year Sony allowed Valve to install a custom edition of Steam onto its flagship living-room console.

Now Valve company president Gabe Newell says Sony deserves financial rewards for “doing the scary thing” and integrating third-party services within its PlayStation Network.

“I think Sony will start to benefit from what it’s doing,” Newell recently told Develop.

“They’ve done the scary thing and I think it’s up to us as developers to make sure Sony and its customers are rewarded.”

Counter-Strike is being co-developed by Hidden Path, a studio also based in Washington, whose staff have helped build previous entries in the Counter-Strike series.

The game is due for release for the first quarter of 2012.
