New tool 'allows devs to distribute apps on iOS, Android and Blackberry'

Adobe launches Flash-on-iPhone app tool

Adobe Systems has released a new application that allows developers to build applications in Flash and port that content to iOS devices.

The newly-updated Flash Builder and Flex framework now each support Apple’s popular mobile devices, as well as rival mobile operating systems Android and Blackberry.

“As a result, developers can quickly build and distribute apps through the Android Market, BlackBerry App World and Apple App Store using one tool chain, programming language and code base—a first for developers,” an Adobe notice read.

The move is Adobe’s latest coup in the highly competitive race for ubiquity in the mobile games space.

Previously, Flash developers were only able to port their apps over to the Android Market.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has made no secret of his dislike for Flash content, openly claiming it has become irrelevant in the mobile age.

iPhones, iPads will still not natively support Flash.

It is not known what effect Flash Builder will have on the development community. The highest hope at Adobe is that it will encourage Apple developers to use Flash, though another possibility is that it will incentivise Flash developers to port content to Apple systems.
