CCP Games boss headlines GameHorizon

June event schedules in Petursson keynote

Hilmar Petursson, the CEO of Icelandic mega-studio CCP Games, is scheduled to make an industry address at this year’s GameHorizon.

The Gateshead-based event – which runs from June 28th to 29th – will also hear from the likes of Eidos Life President Ian Livingstone, Epic Games exec Mark Rein, Zynga vice president Louis Castle and Schell Games CEO Jesse Schell.

Petursson’s speech has yet to be detailed, but CCP Games has a wealth of experience in the MMO and online spaces to draw from.

The company recently made headlines at E3 this year having revealed its ambitious FPS project, Dust 514 – a PS3-exclusive that somehow ties online with Eve Online’s gargantuan PC community.

CPP CEO to talk - Oh the Irony

I find it deliciously ironic Hilmar Petursson, the CEO of Icelandic mega-studio CCP Games is a headline speaker at the GameHorizon summit given review by his dev staff (on glassdoor.com) repeatedly say the management won't talk with them, that leaked internal documents and emails (from said disgruntled staff) and game changes have inflamed player base to EvE to post some 314 pages - 9,400 angry posts (and rising fast) - and Mr Hilmar and his management have blanked them. At last count over 3,500 players are said to have cancelled their accounts in the past few and a lot more will follow. It should be noted the "Eve Online’s gargantuan PC community." is currently in uproar and facing a mass exodus of players and the best their CEO could do was send it a developer to enflame the situation by going on about his $1,000 jeans.

If the leaked internal memo is true it should be an interesting talk he gives. "Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this for a decade, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what our players do and less of what they say"

If the threads on the forums, on Twitter and elsewhere are any guide, he's just lost $1,000,0000 a year in subscriptions. Silence is Golden - but not if you kill the golden goose (as they described their subscribers).

Why don't you guys ask that man what's up with MT, eh? Seems he'll talk to you guys while totally ignoring the people that got him and his friends those $1,000 pants.

Answers. Now.

I think he will have to cancel and focus on saving his company. If he doesn't then he's as deluded as we assume.

Never mind what he says - we all want to know if he'll be wearing some $1000 jeans!
