Microsoft exec claims the online service will spread across multiple devices
The next Windows PC operating system will have full Xbox Live integration, a key Microsoft executive has said.
The company’s plan is to spread its online service beyond the Xbox home console, marketing boss Mike Delman told The Seattle Times at E3 last week.
He also claimed that Xbox Live “has been successful” on Microsoft’s smartphone operating system, Windows Phone, though didn’t explain how he reached that conclusion.
“Xbox Live will be built into the PC,” he added.
“It will be the service where you get your entertainment. We were talking about it — you will not just see consoles and handhelds at this show next year, this show's going to morph into other devices.”

A release date for Windows 8 – Microsoft’s upcoming PC operating system – has yet to be announced.
“Xbox Live will be built into the PC,” he added.
You mean built into your operating system. PC/Personal Computer isn't a Microsoft trademarked word the last time I checked.
With the share of the O/S market Microsoft has retained the potential to produce similar conditions that in the eyes of the European commission might be of the anti competitive variety for Steam, Google or iTunes, etc, I think they made need to rethink this strategy quickly.
Unlike the 360, Playstation or Nintendo platforms, Microsoft are merely the current president of PC land, not the owner, and acting in a closed shop way with their defacto monopoly of an open market is unlikely to go down well with a commission who are still waiting for their settlement payment of around a billion from the last time they clashed with Microsoft.
Seriously, I want to love GFWL because I love Live, I love gaming on my PC and I love achievements, but it's terribly rough round the edges. I hope this new update will thorougly overhaul the service into something highly polished.
I don't own any consoles but from what I understand of the xbox is that you pay a subscription fee for it on top of your Internet bill to be able to play online? The only game that interests me on xbox is undead labs. And that I may not even bother with.
We all know live in any implication won't dethrone steam, assuming that's what they're trying to go for. Games for windows live failed and it sounds like I with many others will sit on 7 like I did xp.
